about

Tummy Touch Records Meet Bastard Jazz: A Brooklyn record label sound clash from two cult labels celebrating milestone birthdays this year - for free !

Bastard Jazz (who turned 10 this year) and Tummy Touch (celebrating their 15th) have each pitted five of their best bands against five of the other's hottest remixers to bring you this exclusive new compilation. Featuring music and remixes from Captain Planet, Tim Love Lee, DJ DRM, Los Chicharrons, Jugoe, Bing Ji Ling, The Bandana Splits and others.

Founded in Brooklyn in the Fall of 2001, Bastard Jazz Recordings came to life as a medium for A&R + Label Head Aaron Schultz and Art Director Jay Marley to release 12" records for a group of cleverly monikered producers who were (at the time) signed to another NYC label which was lying dormant. Since that time, the label has steadily built itself up as your favorite DJ’s favorite label through an extended marathon of single releases, compilations, and full length artist albums, coupled with a commitment to the medium of vinyl. Sonically varied and well-curated, the label has drawn from the tidepools of Dub, Latin, Hip-Hop, Afro, Downtempo, Disco and House music – all the while maintaining a feel that is uniquely their own. 10 years on, Bastard Jazz continues to flourish and open doors to new audiences by focusing on a growing stable of core artists such as Captain Planet, Lord Echo, Jugoe, Mophono, Colm K, The Whiskey Barons and more…

From its roots as a cult dance music label and club night in East London to its current homes in Brooklyn, New York, and at the UK's legendary Rak Studios, Tummy Touch Records has been defying convention, resisting categorisation and championing the unique musical vision of label founder Tim “Love” Lee. Since the first release back in 1994, if it's doped up, blissed out or living on the margins of the acceptable, it's found a loving home at the label. Having launched the careers of artists like Groove Armada, Tom Vek and The Phenomenal Handclap Band, Tummy Touch now has, according to the BBC, “an influence far in excess of its tiny size”. Sit back and let Tummy Touch’s brand of Bohemian disco rock, sci-fi electro soul, unruly Latin mash ups and oddball urban exotica bring aural pleasures to the soundtrack of your musical world.
